The Quit Group (which operates as Quitline) is an
incorporated charitable trust based in Wellington. The Quit Group
grew out of the national Quitline, established in 1999. They are
committed to helping all New Zealanders quit smoking, with a
particular focus on Māori, Pacific peoples and pregnant woman.
Their free services are funded by the Ministry of Health.
Smokers can access their support via telephone, text or online.
Quitline help clients to understand the three parts of a smoking
addiction - chemical, emotional and habitual - and formulate
strategies for beating these.
In addition, to enable health professionals in the community to
provide subsidised nicotine patches, gum and lozenges they
coordinate the Quitcard programme. They also assist employers to
reduce smoking rates in the workplace through their programme
Quit@work.
