From our expert CRM team member Ben, find out how to kick your frustration to the curb if you've been getting error messages when trying to install CRM Rollup 7 for the Outlook client. If you'd like any further information please ring or email me.
I recently had a customer contact Support regarding a
problem as their Windows Updates had stopped working. They were
getting an error when trying to install CRM Rollup 7 for the
Outlook client, and this was causing all their other Windows
Updates to fail as well. The Windows Update will say it's cancelled
the update, but that doesn't
really leave you with a resolution.
Well the problem turns out to be a "bad" version of Rollup 6
that was released on 12th January 2012, and then re-released on
20th January 2012. The version you do not want is
5.0.9689.1985, and the version you do
want is 5.0.9690.1992.
So, what do you need to do?
The easiest way to check if you may be affected by this problem
is to check the version of CRM in Outlook. The steps below show you
how to do this in Outlook 2010:
1. Open Outlook.
2. Click on the File menu and select the
CRM section.

3. Click on the About Microsoft Dynamics
CRM link available on the right-hand side of the
screen.

4. The version number will be shown on the
About dialog screen as indicated
below:

5. If you find you have the wrong version (i.e. 5.0.9689.1985)
then you need to uninstall the Outlook client for CRM, download it
again from this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2600640,
and then install it again.
6. After re-installing the correct version of Rollup 6 (or later
version) Windows Update will start working correctly.
